Starlight is an 'integral part of the total care of a child', where medical teams treat the illness, and Starlight lifts the spirits of the child. There are over 600 000 child admissions to hospitals across Australia each year and Starlight currently reaches '1 in 3' seriously ill and hospitalised children and their families. By 2010 we hope to reach '3 out of 3' hospitalised children. Starlight's programs (Starlight Express Rooms and Starlight Express Vans featuring the wonderful Captain Starlight; Starlight Fun Centres; Starlight Escapes and Starlight Wishgranting) provide positive "distraction therapies", helping children take their mind off the pain, stress & isolation caused by their illness and treatment. Starlight services metropolitan, regional and remote communities across Australia. This includes every state and territory, and regional and remote areas. Starlight has a permanent representation in 138 hospitals.
